Haqooq is a charity that empowers unique and talented individuals with complex neurodiverse and physical support needs, fostering a more inclusive, equitable, and accepting society. We challenge stereotypes, dismantle barriers, and promote a shift from outdated models of disability towards frameworks that prioritise individual empowerment and societal inclusion.
Our work is deeply rooted in the Social Model of Disability, which argues that disability is not inherent to the individual but is created by societal barriers—whether they are physical, attitudinal, or systemic (Oliver, 1990). This model contrasts sharply with the Medical Model, which frames disability as a personal deficiency that needs to be “fixed” (Szasz, 1956; Hogan, in press).
